LOVELAND
Loveland has experienced explosive growth in the commercial and retail sectors over the past few years. The Promenade Shops at Centerra a major retail center which opened in 2005 coupled with the Prime Outlet Mall across the highway, have made Loveland a regional shopping mecca.
Sales tax receipts in Loveland are about to skyrocket, making the available services increase along with them, with little or no accompanying costs to the residents. As you can see, the future of Loveland looks very bright.
Population and Education: The current population of Loveland is over 60,000. It has more than doubled since 1980. The schools are performing at well above the state average. Loveland schools are managed by the Thompson Valley School District. Loveland Education statistics for 2004 state that over 90% of the over 25 age adult population has graduated High School and over 27% of that same group have received a Bachelor's Degree or higher.
Culture: Loveland and Fort Collins share many cultural venues. Please take a look at the Fort Collins Information page for more information. One special Loveland location is the Rialto Theatre. This was reopened several years ago and has been performing to packed audiences ever since. They highlight comedy, music and theatre. The Budweiser Events Center at the "Ranch" can be seen from I-25. It is home to many major Sporting events as well as theatrical performances. It has a 7,500 seat facility that has included such big name acts as Bill Cosby, Snoop Dogg, Scott Hamilton, David Copperfield, The Doodlebops and many more. The Larimer County Fair happens here too. Loveland Sculpture is world renown. Loveland has several foundries which contribute to the proliferation of sculptors in the area. Loveland's Art festivals include Sculpture in the Park as well as Art in the Park. These are invitational shows with nationally known artists in attendance. Loveland has been named as one of the Great Art Destinations in the U.S. by U.S. art magazine. On the lighter side, Thunder in the Rockies is working hard to become known as a mini Sturgis. The motorcycle rally is still in its infancy but it is growing quickly. The annual Big Thompson River Revival, the New Greek Festival, the Larimer County Fair, the Annual Corn Roast festival are some of the other events you can attend in Loveland.
Employment: Loveland has a diverse economic base. The major employers include the school district, The Promenade Shops, the Government, Poudre Valley Health Systems & McKee Medical Center, Hach Company, Woodward Governor and Wal-mart Distribution Center.
Recreation: Loveland is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Travel due west from Loveland by car for about 30 minutes and you will find yourself in Estes Park. Continue through Estes into Rocky Mountain National Park where you can listen to the bugling of the elk, watch the bighorn sheep or see the yellow leaves of the Aspen trees in autumn. Loveland itself offers over 25 city parks. A personal favorite of mine is Vestenez-Smith park. Located in west Loveland on the Big Thompson river, it houses a memorial commemorating those who perished during the flood of 1977. Other parks include North Lake Park located on Lake Loveland and Boyd Lake State Park, home to anglers, boaters and water skiers. Tennis , baseball, basketball and of course great golf are some of the other sports available to locals and visitors alike.
